Solar water heating

Every apartment in the development will be fitted with an individual solar hot water system consisting of a solar collector and hot water storage tank, with each system dedicated to providing hot water to one apartment alone.

Each solar system is also fitted with a supplementary instantaneous gas water heater, which will provide supplementary water heating if required. These gas water heaters are themselves highly energy efficient, and have previously been considered to be the benchmark standard for highly energy efficient water heating. Lainsborough redefines this benchmark.

Photovoltaic panels for solar electricity

Every apartment in the development is pre-wired to accommodate the installation of a 1kW photovoltaic solar electric system dedicated to providing solar electricity to that apartment alone.

The provision made by Carrington also includes special modification of the main switchboard and provision of special electrical meters to allow apartment owners to feed electricity back into the grid, and thereby 'sell' power to the energy suppliers. Even when you are not at home you will be reducing your electricity bill as you supply the local grid.

The systems installed have the potential to produce significant ongoing savings for the occupants of Lainsborough, while also retaining the flexibility for the systems to be individually updated as solar technology improves.

This reduces the reliance on coal-fired electricity generation. The electricity can be used directly in the apartments, for instance when air-conditioning load is high, or it can be returned to the grid.

Low energy lighting

Much of the conventional incandescent lights, that generate heat and use excessive amounts of electricity, have been replaced by various innovative forms of fluorescent lighting. Fluorescent lights generate up to 4 times as much light for the same amount of electricity, thus cutting the electricity required to light the apartments.

Energy-efficient heating provision.

Every apartment in the development has the infrastructure installed to accommodate the installation of an energy-efficient gas fireplace heater within the apartment.
